SUMMARY:Developing a Rational Methodology to Setting the BEAD Program’s Extremely High Cost Per Location Threshold
DESCRIPTION:In implementing the $42.5B BEAD Program\, NTIA demonstrated leadership by prioritizing the deployment of all-fiber connectivity – the most capable\, reliable\, and durable last-mile broadband network technology. States and Territories now have the task of making this fiber priority a reality – by establishing the Extremely High Cost Per Location Threshold – the touchpoint at which a State or Territory may consider whether other technologies provide an efficient means to reach the highest cost locations\, locations that have historically been left out or provided the bare minimum when it comes to broadband investment. NTIA expects the Threshold to be set as high as possible to help ensure that eligible unserved/underserved locations are not left behind and instead receive the same fiber connectivity that virtually all other locations in the U.S. are going to receive. \nTo help States and Territories set their Thresholds\, the Fiber Broadband Association has joined with the business consulting firm Cartesian to develop a methodology based on sound economic and market underpinnings to which States and Territories can apply their unique “facts on the ground.” States and Territories can then run multiple deployment scenarios to converge on a Threshold that best achieves the fiber deployment objective. During the webinar\, Cartesian will present its methodology and then respond to questions from States and Territories. \nWebinar Host: Gary Bolton\, President and CEO\, Fiber Broadband Association\nWebinar Presenter: Michael Dargue\, Vice President\, Cartesian \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Making the Most of BEAD Opportunities - Tips for Success for States and ISPs
DESCRIPTION:States are planning to invest unprecedented federal funding to help build broadband infrastructure. The next big wave of federal funding has begun to flow from the NTIA in the form of the Broadband Equity\, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. The BEAD program\, a cornerstone of the “Internet for All” agenda\, represents $42.45 billion of the overall spend and a significant opportunity for states to help their citizens by working with “subrecipients” who will plan\, build and operate new\, mostly fiber networks across America. \nWhile the BEAD program is necessary and welcomed\, it presents challenges for State Broadband Offices. The Notice of Funding Opportunity\, or NOFO\, has a clear set of requirements that states need to meet in order to use the BEAD grants. \nSimilarly\, while representing a rich source of funding for network expansion\, the program requirements can seem daunting to the ISPs\, Cooperatives and Public-private partnerships that are expected to lead the growth. \nIn this panel webinar we’ll explore the BEAD NOFO and share tips on how to navigate the requirements while making the most of the funding opportunities. \nIn this webinar\, the panelists will discuss: \n• Leveraging map data to make informed decisions\n• Navigating the state-led challenge process\n• Collaboration between States and ISPs\n• Tracking\, reporting and sharing project progress \nWho Should Attend:\nState BBOs\, ISPs and network builders interested in BEAD funding \nModerator: \n\nBrian Mefford\, VP of Broadband Strategy\, VETRO\n\nPanelists: \n\nChad Rupe\, General Manager\, Poderosa Communications\nPeggy Schaffer\, Strategic Advisor\, VETRO\nJeff Sobotka\, VP\, Government\, Vivacity Infrastructure Group\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 16 - Unlicensed Wireless: Suitable for Closing the Digital Divide?
DESCRIPTION:While fiber is the undisputed king of broadband technologies\, fixed wireless is a valuable tool in the toolbox of connectivity options. However not all wireless is created equal – and there is a stark difference between the use cases for licensed and unlicensed wireless spectrum. In a recent white paper commissioned by FBA\, Larry Thompson\, PE\, CEO of Vantage Point Solutions\, argues that the limitations of unlicensed wireless are too great to be worthy of investment from public funds such as BEAD. Join us for a lively discussion about the arguments made in the white paper\, as well as other technology considerations important for the national discussion on broadband funding investments. \nWebinar Guest: \n\nLarry Thompson\, PE\, Chief Executive Officer\, Vantage Point Solutions\n\n \n \n Register Now
