SUMMARY:FFB Week 17 - From Access to Impact: A Major Push to Close the Digital Divide Across Michigan
DESCRIPTION:Everyone in Michigan should have access to affordable\, reliable high-speed internet—but according to the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity\, more than 30% of Michiganders either lack access\, can’t afford it\, or don’t have the necessary skills or technology to get connected. In today’s world\, internet access isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity for education\, healthcare\, work\, and economic opportunity. \nThat’s where the Michigan High-Speed Internet Office (MIHI) comes in. MIHI is working to build a more digitally equitable Michigan\, where everyone can leverage technology to improve their quality of life. \nEstablished in June 2021 through an executive directive from Governor Gretchen Whitmer\, MIHI has been leading the charge to close the digital divide. In this week’s episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Eric Frederick—MIHI’s first Chief Connectivity Officer—joins Gary Bolton\, President and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association\, to discuss the early challenges he faced stepping into the role\, the team’s progress on Michigan’s Digital Equity Plan\, and what’s ahead in their mission to connect every Michigander. \nWith Special Guest: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Don’t Trip at the Starting Line: Mastering Permitting Hurdles in Fiber Optic Design
DESCRIPTION:A successful project starts at the beginning not towards the end. Join FBA and CCI as they walk thru their experience and explanation as to why the first steps are the most important and critical steps into starting a project. With critical targets of timelines\, revenue generating\, and customer retention\, CCI explains why it is so important to start strong and make sure you do not trip at the start line. Join us to hear how design and permitting give you the cornerstone building block to a successful project and how they complement each other throughout the entire project. \nWe plan to cover the complexities of fiber optic design and the critical role of permitting in ensuring project success. We will cover common challenges faced during the design phase\, such as avoiding existing utility conflicts\, governing agency pitfalls\, and collaborating with pole owners for pole availability. We’ll emphasize the importance of incorporating permitting information early in the design process to prevent costly redesigns and delays. \nThrough real-world case studies\, including experiences with broadband and telecom projects\, we’ll highlight the significance of understanding permitting requirements. Our emphasis will also be on proactive collaboration with design departments highlighting how permitting and design can work in tandem to provide valuable insights and streamline the integration of permitting into fiber optic design. \nWe plan to discuss strategies to overcome permitting hurdles and share polling questions to gauge the audience experiences. We are interested in how attendees handle their own permitting and how many view permitting as a determining factor in project success. \nPresented by: \n \n \n \n Register Now
