SUMMARY:FFB Week 22 - PHLConnectED\, Philly Empowered: Linking Families to Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:In a city of 1.5 million residents and a population density of over 11\,000 people per square mile\, you might assume that digital access is a given. But the reality is different. The early days of the COVID-19 pandemic laid bare a persistent digital divide\, as students and families struggled to adapt to a rapidly digital world. \nPHLConnectED—an initiative led by the City of Philadelphia and local partners—was launched to ensure that pre-K through 12th-grade families could access free or low-cost internet services. Central to the program’s success is the City’s Digital Navigator Network\, which provides one-on-one support to help residents overcome barriers to broadband adoption\, such as lack of digital literacy\, device access\, or clarity around service options. \nAdditionally\, the conversation will touch on the City’s new Verizon franchise agreement\, which will bring fiber connectivity to all Philadelphia recreation centers—critical hubs for community access—and why fiber infrastructure plays a vital role in building a resilient\, inclusive digital ecosystem. \nJoin Juliet Fink-Yates\, Broadband Infrastructure and Digital Inclusion Manager at the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Innovation & Technology\, and Gary Bolton\, President and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association (FBA)\, as they discuss the measurable impact of the City’s Digital Navigator Network\, PHLConnectED and  the role in advancing digital equity\, and what’s next in connecting communities to opportunity. \nWith Special Guest: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Fiber Design Services - First Step to Getting Everything Right
DESCRIPTION:Behind every successful fiber network build is a strong design foundation. Long before the first shovel hits the ground\, the planning and coordination that happen in the early stages are key to ensuring the project runs smoothly from start to finish. \nDesign services that cover Survey/Locates\, Design and Permitting are not just the earliest stages of building a network but also a keystone phase in overall network build that impacts downstream phases\, most notably and crucially\, the Construction phase. This directly impacts cost and timeline metrics of the overall project. For those relatively new to network building\, or those needing a refresher of the basics\, this is the time to invest in foundational understanding of this crucial phase\, avoid the common pitfalls and ensure a robust foundation for this milestone period of growth in our national telecom industry. \nIn this session\, TELECON will introduce the three main elements of Fiber Network Design Service\, their respective performance indicators and the growing role of automation that is transforming them for the better. A brief look into the dynamics of keeping these tasks in-house vs outsourcing to specialized services partners will be examined to conclude the session. \nPresented by: \n \n \n \n Register Now
