SUMMARY:FFB Week 45 - The Broadband Boom: Meeting Talent Challenges with Success
DESCRIPTION:As the drive to connect more and more subscribers with high speed Broadband continues\, and new consumer applications require more speed\, the industry is moving beyond one gig to multi-gig functionality. Fiber providers have a very elegant and simple path to transition from GPON to 10 Gigabits per second XGS-PON functionality. Cable operators\, having delivered one gig downstream with DOCSIS 3.1\, are now working diligently to provide multi gig functionality with their DOCSIS 4.0 upgrade program. This webinar will examine the status and expected timing of the DOCSIS 4.0 rollout\, and the relative economics of deployment for both existing and new network footprints. The disparate ways that fiber and cable operators currently compete will also be examined. Finally\, the importance and potential timing of high capacity upstream applications will be examined. \nWebinar Guest Presenter: Paul Connolly\, Telecom and Networks Practice Leader\, Entropy\, Inc. \nMr. Connolly is an expert in telecom\, cable\, and media networks with a distinguished executive background at NorTel\, Scientific-Atlanta and Cisco. He has led design and technology implementations for major companies in broadband networks\, and served as partner for fiber projects with AT&T and Verizon. His expertise also extends to media giants such as HBO\, Viacom and Disney. Mr. Connolly‘s insights and reports contribute to profitable industry growth. In addition to managing his consulting business\, Connolly Network Insight\, LLC\, he leads Entropy’s Telecom and Networks practice with his vast expertise across various ventures in the technology and media landscape. Mr. Connolly has received a Presidential Points of Light Award for his work with the Boys and Girls Club. \n  \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 48 - Artificial Intelligence: Powered by Fiber-Rich Networks
DESCRIPTION:As fiber takes center stage in the ongoing work of bringing high-speed connectivity to homes\, businesses\, and communities\, it’s also playing a pivotal role in another fast-moving technology trend: Artificial intelligence. From healthcare to education\, from manufacturing to finance\, new AI applications are emerging every day. To support these applications\, data centers must build a second layer of computing with many more fiber links\, according to Mike O’Day\, Chief Technology Officer\, Corning Optical Communications. O’Day will explain how large-language-model data centers will require up to 5 times more optical connectivity compared with today’s hyperscale architectures. He will also chart the expected capacity growth of the largest hyperscale data centers and describe how Corning’s engineers are creating the next generation of innovations to help operators stay ahead of the growth. \nWebinar Guest Presenter: Michael P. O’Day\, Chief Technology Officer\, Corning Optical Communications \nMike O’Day is the Chief Technology Officer for Corning Optical Communications. O’Day is responsible for leading the disruptive innovation programs and adoption by customers while aligning the optical fiber\, cable\, and connectivity R&D organizations to deliver innovations required for growth. \nO’Day joined the Corning family upon leaving the U.S. Army in 1998. Most of his career has been spent managing Corning’s optical connectivity products\, helping to launch fiber-to-the-home product lines in support of Verizon’s FiOS initiative. \nO’Day hails from northern Missouri.  He received his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1991 and his Master of Business Administration from Minnesota State University (Mankato) in 1998.  He spent seven years on active duty as a field artillery officer primarily in the 4th Infantry Division and 29th Artillery Regiment\, participating in training and peacekeeping operations after the Persian Gulf War in 1991. \n  \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 2 - Broadband First: Access to Fiber Internet Surpasses 50% of U.S. Households [New Research]
DESCRIPTION:Fiber-optic cables are the gold standard for broadband infrastructure. The backbone of the internet utilizes fiber\, and without it\, the internet as we know it today would not be possible. With their unparalleled data transmission speed and reliability\, the technology poised to become even more critical. They will not only cater to escalating data consumption but also enable innovations in artificial intelligence\, virtual reality\, and smart cities\, fundamentally reshaping our interaction with technology and each other. As such\, tracking fiber penetration across the U.S. broadband market provides valuable insights into technological adoption and accessibility. Tracking penetration is difficult\, however\, because data on adoption of specific technology types is often not publicly available. \nOur presentation highlights an innovative approach to address this gap. We have developed a machine learning algorithm capable of analyzing vast amounts of raw speed test data to identify which tests were conducted over fiber connections. This is based on the unique performance benchmarks of fiber technology. Preliminary results are promising\, showing an accuracy rate of approximately 95%. Join us as we uncover the potential of this technology in enhancing our understanding of broadband infrastructure’s evolution. \nGuest Presenter: Tyler Cooper\, Editor-In-Chief\, BroadbandNow \nTyler Cooper\, BroadbandNow’s Editor-in-Chief\, has over a decade of telecom experience and is a featured speaker at conferences like Net Inclusion 2020. His expertise spans digital inclusion\, municipal broadband\, telecom legislation\, emerging technologies\, and the societal impact of broadband. Internationally recognized\, Tyler’s work includes publications on VentureBeat\, TechRadar\, Digital Trends\, and The Next Web. He has been featured in VICE\, Fox News\, Voice of America\, and other outlets\, addressing broadband issues like the digital divide\, net neutrality\, cybersecurity\, and internet access since 2015. \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - FBA Inaugural Fiber Deployment Cost Survey Results – Assessing the Landscape Ahead of BEAD
DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Broadband Association and Cartesian are proud to release the findings from our inaugural Fiber Deployment Study. \nThe next five to ten years will be the most critical in broadband infrastructure as we look to accomplish the ambitious goal of delivering high speed internet access to all Americans. Central to this mission are the public and private investments that are fueling historic levels of deployment. The largest of these – the Broadband\, Equity\, Access\, and Deployment (BEAD) Program – dedicates $42.45B to the effort. This year\, we’ll start to see BEAD funds flow through state broadband offices to subgrantee winners. \nAs we enter this next phase in building broadband infrastructure\, it’s more important than ever to understand the detail behind construction costs. Better insight into the cost of fiber deployment will help industry and policymakers to realize the full potential of fiber broadband and reach the greatest number of people. \nJoin us Wednesday January 24th at 11am ET as we present the key findings from our Fiber Deployment Study. Topics include: \n\nOverall range of deployment costs for aerial and underground construction\nTypical breakdown between the cost of labor and materials and the distribution of each\nImpact of deployment-related factors on deployment cost\, such as population density\, terrain\, and construction method\nHow deployment costs changed last year and the reasons behind this change\nOutlook for costs in the coming year and predictions on which cost drivers will be the most significant\n\nThanks to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this study. \nPresented by:\nMichael Dargue\, Vice President\, Cartesian\nMeg Corriveau\, Consultant – Strategy & Analytics\, Cartesian \n \n \n Register Now
