SUMMARY:FFB Week 11 - State of Maryland Bridges Digital Divide with New Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG)
DESCRIPTION:In January 2025\, Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order establishing the Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG). This interagency partnership is designed to enhance collaboration among Maryland State and county entities to streamline the coordinated development of broadband infrastructure and drive significant financial efficiencies. The group will further eliminate silos and redundancies by adopting a shared broadband infrastructure model\, the first of its kind in the nation. Working alongside Maryland’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT)\, the state will benefit from a centralized planning body that will share resources to accomplish state priorities while also helping the state’s infrastructure reach last-mile underserved areas like the Eastern Shore that have historically had low internet coverage. During this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Eric Bathras\, DoIT’s Chief Technology Officer for Infrastructure joins FBA CEO Gary Bolton to discuss what Maryland is doing to help educate other states and private service providers on how to partner\, organize\, plan and deliver around middle and last mile broadband and digital infrastructure expansion. \nWith Special Guest: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEric Bathras\nChief Technology Officer\nMaryland Department of Information Technology \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 13 - Breaking Barriers: Using AI to Develop Stronger Connected Collaboration in Today's Fiber Industry
DESCRIPTION:According to the Michigan High Speed Internet Office\, as of 2023\, 730\,000 Michigan households face barriers related to affordability\, adoption\, device access\, digital literacy\, or a combination thereof. Taken together\, this means that approximately 30 percent of Michigan households struggle with some form of the digital divide.  Michigan’s digital equity strategy recognizes a fundamental complexity: no single organization can comprehensively address regional digital empowerment needs\, and that success can only be achieved through collaboration. Jon Willow\, co-founder of the Community Broadband Action Network (CBAN) has closely observed these challenges faced by diverse Michigan community-based entities.  She has applied her deep expertise in coalition research and project management and obtained a fellowship at Michigan State University (MSU) to investigate AI’s role in enhancing community-based coalition effectiveness in solving Michigan’s digital divide. During this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Jon joins FBA CEO Gary Bolton to discuss the methodologies and insights of her newly released research report and how the use of AI tools can offer a stronger\, connected collaboration across multiple agencies and organizations. \nWith Special Guest: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJon Willow\nCo-Founder\, Board Chair\, Digital Equity Practice Leader\nCommunity Broadband Action Network (CBAN) \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Don’t Trip at the Starting Line: Mastering Permitting Hurdles in Fiber Optic Design
DESCRIPTION:A successful project starts at the beginning not towards the end. Join FBA and CCI as they walk thru their experience and explanation as to why the first steps are the most important and critical steps into starting a project. With critical targets of timelines\, revenue generating\, and customer retention\, CCI explains why it is so important to start strong and make sure you do not trip at the start line. Join us to hear how design and permitting give you the cornerstone building block to a successful project and how they complement each other throughout the entire project. \nWe plan to cover the complexities of fiber optic design and the critical role of permitting in ensuring project success. We will cover common challenges faced during the design phase\, such as avoiding existing utility conflicts\, governing agency pitfalls\, and collaborating with pole owners for pole availability. We’ll emphasize the importance of incorporating permitting information early in the design process to prevent costly redesigns and delays. \nThrough real-world case studies\, including experiences with broadband and telecom projects\, we’ll highlight the significance of understanding permitting requirements. Our emphasis will also be on proactive collaboration with design departments highlighting how permitting and design can work in tandem to provide valuable insights and streamline the integration of permitting into fiber optic design. \nWe plan to discuss strategies to overcome permitting hurdles and share polling questions to gauge the audience experiences. We are interested in how attendees handle their own permitting and how many view permitting as a determining factor in project success. \nPresented by: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Bringing Operations Support Systems from the Back Office to Front of Mind: A Clear Pathway to Increased Profitability and Prospects for Outside Funding
DESCRIPTION:Broadband providers are naturally focused on constructing their networks as efficiently and quickly as possible. Operations can only begin when the network is built\, obviously. \nOnce launched\, however\, operators often find themselves relying on a patchwork of tools and systems to support operations and hoped for subscriber growth.  This incremental approach has often led to inefficiencies across critical handoff points in their processes. These inefficiencies—previously overshadowed by other priorities—eventually pose significant risks to financial performance and customer satisfaction as providers attempt to meet demand and scale operations.  Continuing with the “old tools” does not allow operators to achieve the financial growth that is desired and can\, if not improved\, result in tarnished reputations and churned customers\, reducing the prospect of obtaining outside funding for expansion. \nOperators often get stuck in the quagmire of: \n\nSwivel chair operations between multiple home-grown systems\nSupporting multiple sales channels including eCommerce\, direct sales\, retail\, agent-based sales and outbound telemarketing\nInability to determine serviceability\nInventory discrepancies\nFragmented order input and orchestration through provisioning and activation\nInefficient support and scheduling of field service technicians\n\nThese and other inefficiencies lead to one critical obstacle: Inability to scale. \nThis webinar will focus on the need for end-to-end integration of key operational workflows\, including sales\, serviceability assessments\, inventory management\, order management and orchestration\, billing\, and on-going customer care.  Constellation SaaS is a complete solution that provides a unified\, cloud-native approach that enables scalability by eliminating process bottlenecks\, thus enhancing operational efficiency and simplifying compliance requirements.  The platform enables operators to achieve sustainable growth while meeting financial targets and delivering superior customer experiences. \nConstellation SaaS brings the back office to operators’ front of mind\, transforming operations support from a cumbersome but necessary evil into an enabler of scalability\, customer satisfaction and attraction of outside investors and government funding. \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Bridging the Last Mile: Aligning Home Network Performance with Fiber Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:As Internet Service Providers invest heavily in deploying multi-gigabit fiber networks\, a critical challenge arises: the disparity between fiber-to-the-home speeds and the actual in-home wireless performance—which is typically what users experience. This presentation explores how this “last mile” gap can significantly impact customer satisfaction and undermine ISPs’ infrastructure investments. \nWe’ll examine how advanced mesh Wi-Fi solutions\, implemented through strategic ISP partnerships\, can help bridge this divide by delivering home networking capabilities that match modern fiber speeds. The discussion will include real-world implementation cases\, customer experience metrics\, and strategies for ISPs to ensure end-to-end service excellence. \nLearn how integrated hardware and software solutions can help providers protect their fiber infrastructure investments while meeting evolving customer expectations for seamless\, high-speed connectivity throughout the home. \nPresented by: \n \n \n \n Register Now
