SUMMARY:FBA Presents - How Do We Solve the Unappreciated Fiber Capacity Increase Needed Between AI Data Centers?
DESCRIPTION:Many AI professionals anticipate at least a threefold increase in total hyperscale data center capacity in the coming years. Often discussed is the monumental challenge of meeting power/ electric needs; suitable land for sites; water for cooling; and the availability of advanced microchips and other enabling products. But… a fifth and potentially as critical challenge is meeting the fiber-optic interconnection requirements between data centers. \nThis session will begin by outlining how fiber capacity\, latency\, and security requirements are integral and require scaling to address these challenges. Next\, the discussion will quantify the anticipated need for fiber and fiber installation\, describing it in terms of fiber miles (reflecting material demand) and route miles (reflecting construction needs). The analysis will consider three main areas: establishing new interconnections between new data center locations and access points\, upgrading existing long-haul routes\, and constructing additional long-haul routes. \nThe purpose of the session is to inform FBA members about this segment of the fiber market\, highlight relevant policy considerations to support efficient construction\, and provide an overview of the scale of expected developments. \nPresented by: \n\nMichael Render\, CEO\, RVA LLC – Market Research and Consulting\nJordan Gross\, Director of State Government Affairs\, Lumen Technologies\nJohn George\, Sr. Director\, Solutions Engineering and Fusion Splicers\, Lightera\nDavid Eckard\, VP of Broadband Partners\, Nokia\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Wk 32 – Driving Connections: Local Lessons from the Road to Broadband Expansion
DESCRIPTION:Broadband is no longer a luxury—it’s essential for economic opportunity\, education\, and community resilience. The Maine Connectivity Authority (MCA) is meeting this need by investing in infrastructure through a deeply local\, collaborative approach. \nThis past June\, MCA President Andrew Butcher hit the road in his 1984 Volkswagen van—affectionately known as “Buttercup”—traveling over 800 miles to visit 14 towns\, 5 libraries\, and 2 connectivity hubs\, and connect with more than 150 community members and broadband partners across Maine to understand how we can both be more connected digitally and in real life. \nIn this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Andrew joins Gary Bolton\, President & CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association\, to share stories from the road and insights into how strategic partnerships—with Tribal\, municipal\, nonprofit\, and private stakeholders—are helping close the digital divide. With more than 86\,000 homes and businesses connected in the past three years—a 26% increase in access—MCA is building more than just infrastructure; it’s shaping the future of equitable\, sustainable connectivity. \nWith Special Guest: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Wk 34 - Grading American Broadband: Findings of the 2025 Report Card for America's Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:As work\, commerce\, and society move online\, reliable internet access has become essential. In 2000\, only 1% of U.S. adults had home broadband\, compared to 80% today. Without faster speeds and higher adoption\, the U.S. would have lost $1.3 trillion in economic growth from 2010–2020. Since 1996\, the private sector has invested $2.2 trillion in broadband infrastructure\, with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act adding $65 billion in federal funds. Still\, 10% of households (12.7 million) lack a broadband subscription. New investments aim to close this gap\, but extreme weather and rapidly evolving technologies pose ongoing challenges. \nOn our next episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, join us as Ed Barrett\, President of HR Green’s Broadband Business Unit talks with Gary Bolton\, President & CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) and covers the latest broadband report card grade published by the American Society of Civil Engineers and covers important areas of research on broadband capacity\, materials cost for last-mile broadband deployment methods\, funding\, operations and maintenance and more. \n*Telecom Advisory Services\, “The Contribution of Fixed Broadband to the Economic Growth of the United States between 2010 and 2020\,” 2022 \nWith Special Guest: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Strengthening the Fiber Broadband Supply Chain: Insights and Strategies for 2025 and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Broadband Association Supply Chain Working Group presents its 2025 whitepaper titled: Strengthening the Fiber Broadband Supply Chain: Insights and Strategies for 2025 and Beyond. It provides an in-depth analysis of the evolving U.S. fiber broadband industry\, highlighting both opportunities and challenges as deployment accelerates. It underscores the critical role of federal programs such as the Broadband Equity\, Access\, and Deployment (BEAD) initiative and Build America\, Buy America (BABA) mandates in shaping supply chains\, procurement\, and deployment strategies. While pandemic-era disruptions have eased\, new pressures have emerged\, including regulatory compliance\, permitting delays\, workforce shortages\, and competition for resources from data centers. The report emphasizes that collaboration among suppliers\, contractors\, operators\, and policymakers is essential to overcome these challenges and achieve equitable\, large-scale broadband access. \nLooking ahead\, this whitepaper identifies several strategic priorities: strengthening workforce training to close labor gaps\, improving inventory and compliance management\, diversifying suppliers\, and integrating advanced technologies like AI\, predictive maintenance\, and digital compliance systems. It also highlights the growing importance of climate-resilient installations\, cybersecurity safeguards\, and community-driven initiatives such as tribal digital sovereignty. Ultimately\, the report calls for a coordinated industry approach that balances compliance with innovation\, ensuring the fiber broadband supply chain remains resilient\, efficient\, and capable of supporting long-term connectivity goals across underserved and unserved communities. \nPresented by: \n \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Accelerating Fiber Deployment: How Aecon and SBS Are Transforming Broadband Design
DESCRIPTION:As BEAD-funded projects ramp up\, the pressure on broadband service providers and engineering firms to move faster has never been greater. Once high-level network plans are in place\, the real challenge begins: translating routes and service areas into detailed low-level designs\, permit drawings\, and construction-ready packages. Yet experienced fiber design resources are limited\, and traditional processes too often introduce duplication\, rework\, and costly delays. \nIn this webinar\, SBS and Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) will share how they are addressing these challenges with a new approach to broadband design. Built on the proven Automated Utility Design (AUD) platform\, SBS’s Automated Broadband Designer (ABD) brings automation\, consistency\, and quality control to every step of the fiber design process. You’ll hear from Sangeetha and Stewart at AUE about the drivers behind their adoption\, the measurable improvements in engineering throughput and permitting efficiency\, and how this partnership is helping them scale while meeting market demands from their customers in the US and Canada. \nPresented by: \n \n\n\n \n \n Register Now

We’ll explore challenges in recruiting\, preparing\, and retaining talent—especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Clearfield will also provide background to a new training initiative designed specifically for Native American communities\, creating pathways for local residents to gain certification\, opening up living-wage jobs opportunities\, and with the ultimate goal of tribal lands connected with high-speed fiber broadband. \nPresented by: \n \n\n\n \n \n Register Now
