SUMMARY:FBA Presents - Findings from Fiber Broadband Association's Second Annual Fiber Deployment Cost Study
DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Broadband Association and Cartesian are proud to release findings from our second annual Fiber Deployment Cost Study. \nIt’s now more critical than ever to understand the cost of fiber deployment for providers across the country. The Broadband\, Equity\, Access\, and Deployment (BEAD) Program is in full swing\, with many states in the process of selecting providers for deployment projects. Alongside BEAD’s $42.45B in federal funding\, we are seeing a huge influx of private investment aimed at the same goal: to connect all Americans with high-speed internet access. \nSupporting historic levels of fiber deployment\, we launched this annual study to equip the industry with reliable deployment cost benchmarks. Building on insights from last year’s report\, this study continues to help the industry and policymakers alike chart the path for fiber to reach the greatest number of Americans. \nJoin us Thursday February 6th at 11am ET as we present the key findings from our second annual Fiber Deployment Cost Study (2024). Topics include: \n\nTypical range of deployment costs for aerial and underground construction\nBreaking down the cost of deployment between labor and materials\nImpact of deployment-related factors on deployment cost\, such as density\, terrain\, and construction method\nHow industry participants felt deployment costs changed over the past year and predictions on how costs may change in the coming year\n\nPresented by: \n\nMeg Corriveau\, Manager\, Cartesian\n\nThanks to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this study. \n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 7 - Broadband Priorities in the New Administration: Expanding Access\, Speed\, and Equity
DESCRIPTION:As the new administration sets its policy agenda\, broadband expansion emerges as a critical priority for economic growth\, digital equity\, and national competitiveness. While fiber broadband remains the gold standard for high-speed\, scalable connectivity\, the administration is expected to adopt a technology-neutral approach that includes fixed wireless access (FWA)\, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites\, and cable network upgrades to quickly and cost-effectively reach underserved communities. Key initiatives focus on expanding rural broadband infrastructure\, promoting affordability programs\, and fostering competition to drive innovation. But will a diverse mix of broadband solutions be the answer to solving the digital divide? \nDuring this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Ajit Pai\, Partner\, Searchlight Capital joins FBA CEO Gary Bolton to discuss the possibilities and challenges this new administration faces\, how the funding and deployment might roll out and what he sees happening competitively to the fiber broadband landscape. \nWith Special Guest: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAjit Pai\nPartner \nSearchlight Capital\n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 11 - State of Maryland Bridges Digital Divide with New Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG)
DESCRIPTION:In January 2025\, Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order establishing the Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG). This interagency partnership is designed to enhance collaboration among Maryland State and county entities to streamline the coordinated development of broadband infrastructure and drive significant financial efficiencies. The group will further eliminate silos and redundancies by adopting a shared broadband infrastructure model\, the first of its kind in the nation. Working alongside Maryland’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT)\, the state will benefit from a centralized planning body that will share resources to accomplish state priorities while also helping the state’s infrastructure reach last-mile underserved areas like the Eastern Shore that have historically had low internet coverage. During this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Eric Bathras\, DoIT’s Chief Technology Officer for Infrastructure joins FBA CEO Gary Bolton to discuss what Maryland is doing to help educate other states and private service providers on how to partner\, organize\, plan and deliver around middle and last mile broadband and digital infrastructure expansion. \nWith Special Guest: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEric Bathras\nChief Technology Officer\nMaryland Department of Information Technology \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 13 - Breaking Barriers: Using AI to Develop Stronger Connected Collaboration in Today's Fiber Industry
DESCRIPTION:According to the Michigan High Speed Internet Office\, as of 2023\, 730\,000 Michigan households face barriers related to affordability\, adoption\, device access\, digital literacy\, or a combination thereof. Taken together\, this means that approximately 30 percent of Michigan households struggle with some form of the digital divide.  Michigan’s digital equity strategy recognizes a fundamental complexity: no single organization can comprehensively address regional digital empowerment needs\, and that success can only be achieved through collaboration. Jon Willow\, co-founder of the Community Broadband Action Network (CBAN) has closely observed these challenges faced by diverse Michigan community-based entities.  She has applied her deep expertise in coalition research and project management and obtained a fellowship at Michigan State University (MSU) to investigate AI’s role in enhancing community-based coalition effectiveness in solving Michigan’s digital divide. During this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, Jon joins FBA CEO Gary Bolton to discuss the methodologies and insights of her newly released research report and how the use of AI tools can offer a stronger\, connected collaboration across multiple agencies and organizations. \nWith Special Guest: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJon Willow\nCo-Founder\, Board Chair\, Digital Equity Practice Leader\nCommunity Broadband Action Network (CBAN) \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Now

SUMMARY:FFB Week 15 - Unlocking Nevada’s Digital Future: The High-Speed Nevada Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Nevada is vast—covering over 110\,000 square miles—and despite substantial federal funding for broadband expansion\, the state faces unique challenges. Rugged terrain\, remote communities\, and geographic isolation create significant barriers to digital access. The High-Speed Nevada Initiative is designed to overcome these hurdles by strategically combining federal\, state\, local\, and private investments to bridge the digital divide. \nIn this episode of Fiber for Breakfast\, we’re joined by Brian Mitchell\, Director of the Office of Science\, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) and head of the State of Nevada’s Broadband Office\, to discuss the groundbreaking work happening across the state. Brian will share insights into the phased approach of this initiative\, its focus on precise mapping\, and why thoughtful planning is key to success. \nTune in as Brian and FBA President and CEO Gary Bolton explore the intersection of technology\, policy\, and broadband’s future in Nevada. Together\, they’ll break down how this initiative is setting a new gold standard for planning and execution\, making Nevada a model for large-scale\, complex broadband projects. \nWith Special Guest: \n \n \n \n Register Now
