Alaska Power & Telephone Awarded $21.5 Million USDA ReConnect Grant for Prince of Wales Island Fiber Optic Cable and Rural Broadband Buildout
Alaska Power & Telephone Company (AP&T) says its subsidiary, AP&T Wireless, Inc. has received a $21,545,167 grant from the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utility Services ReConnect grant program for the SEALink broadband project. AP&T will provide $7 million to help complete the project, which will provide high-speed Internet to consumers in Kasaan and Coffman Cove. Crews will also install a 214-mile fiber-optic cable between Prince of Wales Island, Petersburg and Juneau. Officials say the SEALink project will support economic and community stability in the region.
