FBA OpTIC Path™

With today’s high speed fiber optic networks providing the bandwidth required for working remotely, distance learning and medical monitoring, it is the role of the professional fiber optic technician to provide the quality workmanship required for these networks. This course provides future technicians with the knowledge and skills required while potentially opening the door for a professional career with organizations such as telecommunications service providers, Internet service providers and contractors.

About the Program

The FBA has developed content for the course and is partnering with Community and Technical Colleges and Veteran programs nationwide.

The course is designed using a building block format so that novices to the technology can follow it easily. Integrated skills training follows the classroom knowledge chapters. By the completion of the course, graduates will be able to install, test, and troubleshoot components to completed systems, including at subscriber’s FTTH locations.

The Fiber Broadband Association’s Fiber Optic Technician Certification course, FBA OpTIC Path; Optical Telecom Installer Certification program is a program that will be offered at various vocational schools and community colleges around the country. We created this course to fill a skills gap to help accelerate fiber deployments across North America!

Graduates will receive a Certificate from the Fiber Broadband Association upon completion of the course and will be required to retest after 3 years from the date of issue.

In addition, graduates will receive 1-year complimentary individual membership giving them access to all FBA research and resources.

Course Description

Build and develop the skills required for entry-level employment as a fiber optic technician. This course covers the fundamental principles of installing, testing, and maintaining FTTx networks properly. The class will consist of 144 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on skills training. Individuals completing the course may be eligible for an internship or registered U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship (2,000 hours) with a communications service provider or installation contractor.

Upon satisfactory course completion, graduates will be eligible for the Fiber Broadband Association OpTIC Path 3-year certification, plus 1-year complimentary FBA membership, access to additional FBA content, and networking opportunities with masters in the field.
