Smithville, UDWI Forge Partnership to Accelerate Fiber Construction; First Project in Monroe County Set to Break Ground in January 2021
Smithville, an Indiana-based telecommunications firm, and the Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC have reached a partnership that will accelerate high-speed fiber construction for customers in their overlapping service areas. The first project from the two companies will extend fiber-optic service to 800 homes in the rural area east of Stanford in Monroe County. Construction on this project will begin this year and should be completed by the end of 2022.
