123NET Connects First Customer in Allegan County
Allegan County, Michigan, Nov 14, 2023 – 123NET and Allegan County have connected their first residential customers in Shelbyville, Michigan as part of the $65 million project to construct an open-access, carrier-neutral fiber network across the county.
The newly connected Shelbyville homes are the first of approximately 11,000 unserved and underserved homes across the county to benefit from the extensive 1,100 miles of high-capacity fiber that will be constructed over the next two years.
“Allegan County and its Board of Commissioners had a vision to bring high-performance broadband to all of the county’s residents to make Allegan one of the best-connected areas in in the state,” said Jill Dunham, Allegan County’s Broadband Project Manager. “It’s fulfilling to see that vision start to become a reality. The complete rollout will take time, but the project has started and that’s exciting.”
The broadband project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number CPFFN0190 awarded to the State of Michigan by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Allegan County ARPA Funds and 123NET capital investment. It’s more than just infrastructure—it’s about empowering communities and individuals with the tools for success in an increasingly digital world. These initial installations were made just weeks after the official ROBIN grant was awarded to 123NET.
“Allegan County has been an exciting project for 123NET and we’re thrilled to see the initial customers go live,” said Dan Irvin, CEO of 123NET. “As a Michigan-based company, we’re happy to provide our neighbors with state-of-the-art internet. 123NET has made several recent investments in West Michigan that will have positive benefits for internet users.”
