Nex-Tech Completes Fiber Deployment to Cooperative Members
Lenora, Kan, 1-11-2024 — Nex-Tech, a Kansas company and leader in technology, is pleased to announce the completion of its fiber-to-premise (FTTP) buildout to its last cooperative member. Nex-Tech made a promise to its cooperative members, that they would have a state-of-the-art fiber optic connection at their homes by the end of 2023. The final members to receive FTTP were Lonnie and Michelle Houser in Quinter, Kansas. On January 5, 2024, Nex-Tech management and team members presented the Housers with balloons, an engraved clock for the “Most Patient Customer”, and a $300 service credit. “Having fiber technology at home brings a sense of relief and contentment. It’s a small upgrade that will make a big difference in our lives,” said Lonnie Houser. Michelle Houser added, “We understand that this has been a very long project, and it is great to finally get connected to fiber, especially on this beautiful snow day.”
Since 1951, Rural Telephone Service Company, Inc., now known as Nex-Tech, has been providing cutting-edge technology in northwest Kansas. As a leading innovator throughout Kansas, Nex-Tech attributes a significant portion of its success to the strategic partnership and collaboration with its esteemed cooperative members. This partnership strives to nurture innovation, share expertise, and drive advancements while placing the utmost importance on listening to and acting upon feedback from the community using its services. For the last five years, Nex-Tech has aimed to achieve 100% fiber connectivity for all customers in the cooperative area, and they have budgeted over $15 million in capital investments to ensure they meet the goal.
Nex-Tech has been a pioneer in the industry since 1987, when it was the first company to deliver services via fiber technology. Increased Internet speeds provide many benefits to users, such as buffer-free streaming, real-time gaming, and a reliable work-from-home connection. They will also be able to sign up for TV Now, Nex-Tech’s entertainment option that provides a unique combination of streaming and live TV. A fiber infrastructure also levels the playing field for small, rural communities to compete with larger, urban areas for business growth, expansion, and economic development.
“Nex-Tech’s fiber build was driven in large part by our commitment to making connectivity an integral part of rural America,” said Dustin Schlaefli, Director of Customer Engagement at Nex-Tech. “That said, it is an expensive proposition, so when we build, it is with an eye to the future.
We know that a 10 Mbps connection is no longer enough for the average household and demand will continue to increase as technology advances.”
