Norton’s Elmwood Park to Receive Free Public Wi-Fi Through State ADOPT Grant

Norton, KS – August 26, 2025 – Governor Laura Kelly has announced $10.4 million in grants through the Advancing Digital Opportunities to Promote Technology (ADOPT) program, expanding high-speed public Wi-Fi and device access across the state. Among the 18 funded projects is a Nex-Tech partnership with the Norton community to bring free, reliable Wi-Fi to Elmwood Park, a central hub for events, sports, and recreation.

The Kansas Office of Broadband Development (KOBD) selected Nex-Tech’s proposal for exceeding program expectations and demonstrating strong community collaboration. Local partners include the City of Norton, Norton Chamber of Commerce, Norton Travel and Tourism Board, Norton County Economic Development, and the Norton County Division of Emergency Management.

“This is a fine project that will help the community grow and prosper,” said Lt. Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland.

Elmwood Park hosts thousands of visitors each year, with an estimated 14,600 event attendees benefiting from the new Wi-Fi annually. Events include varsity and junior varsity football games, baseball and softball tournaments, track meets, the Norton County Fair, Party in the Park, and seasonal festivals.

The new network will:

  • Support vendors and organizers with reliable internet for ticketing and card payments
  • Enable livestreaming of games and concerts
  • Improve access to emergency communication tools
  • Enhance the visitor experience for both residents and tourists

“Broadband access is central to bringing our communities together and creating spaces for residents to succeed in today’s digital world,” said Governor Laura Kelly.

Once live, the Wi-Fi will be free to all visitors in Elmwood Park.
