Peninsula Fiber Network Appoints Sam Olmsted as Vice President of Business Development
Marquette, Mich. – Peninsula Fiber Network (PFN) today announced the appointment of Sam Olmsted as Vice President of Business Development, reinforcing the company’s evolution as a network provider specializing in mission-critical communications, including Michigan’s NG911 network.
Olmsted brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience across internet architecture, carrier and enterprise fiber infrastructure, wireless backhaul, and hyperscale and colocation data center connectivity. In his new role, he will lead PFN’s external growth strategy—aligning market intelligence, partnerships, and network planning as PFN continues to build purpose-designed, intelligence-driven networks for the AI era.
“Sam’s experience reflects where this industry is headed—not where it’s been,” said Cory Heigl, Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Fiber Network. “As demand is increasingly driven by AI workloads, hyperscale data centers, and wireless backhaul, infrastructure must be designed with intent. Sam brings the technical credibility and market insight needed to help PFN compete through smart design and execution.”
Throughout his career, Olmsted has operated at the intersection of fiber, wireless, and data center ecosystems, translating market demand, pricing trends, and technical requirements into actionable infrastructure and partnership strategies—experience that supports PFN’s shift beyond legacy network models.
“Networks are being redefined by AI, hyperscale compute, and complex traffic patterns,” said Olmsted. “PFN is taking a forward-looking approach to building infrastructure that reflects how data actually moves. That vision is already visible in Project IMPACC—the PFN led $87 million initiative spanning large areas of Michigan, including routes beneath Lake Michigan—and I’m excited to help advance that strategy.”
Olmsted’s appointment reflects PFN’s continued shift from regional expansion toward a cohesive, future-ready network platform integrating fiber, wireless backhaul, and data center interconnection to support mission-critical communications at scale.
