Brightspeed Launches High-Speed Fiber Internet for Thousands in Humble, Texas
With support from community members, the company fires up its reliable, high-speed fiber network and donates to nonprofit during ribbon-cutting event
HUMBLE, Texas — April 9, 2025 — Today, Brightspeed, one of the nation’s largest fiber broadband builders, marked an important milestone in Humble, Texas. With the iconic mural at Uptown Park as the backdrop, Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk and community partners joined the company to officially launch the state-of-the-art, high-speed Brightspeed Fiber Internet service.
Brightspeed’s network now reaches more than 19,000 families and businesses across Harris County. The best part? More high-speed fiber broadband access is coming. By the end of the build, nearly 62,000 locations across the area will be connected.
“Reliable, high-speed internet is more than just a convenience – it’s a lifeline, especially in a community known for its contribution to key industries in Texas,” said Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk. “From our rich history in oil to telehealth, that connects patients and doctors to supporting education, businesses, and daily life, broadband access is essential. Brightspeed’s investment in expanding connectivity is ensuring our residents have the tools they need to access quality healthcare, stay competitive, and thrive in today’s digital economy.”
Texas currently ranks 12th in the nation when it comes to internet coverage, speed, and availability, according to BroadbandNow, with five in ten Texas residents unable to purchase a fiber internet plan. This paints a challenging picture for those who need high-speed internet to look for employment, complete schoolwork, or access telehealth.
“Reliable internet is essential,” said Brightspeed Government Affairs Regional Director Scott Stringer. “That’s why we’re committed to expanding connectivity in communities of all sizes, from thriving urban centers to rural areas that have long faced barriers to access. By working alongside local governments and organizations, we’re building the foundation for more connected, resilient communities.”
Beyond investing in connectivity, Brightspeed is proud to support Humble ISD Education Foundation. During the event, Brightspeed presented a donation of $2,500 to the organization, furthering their commitment to the community and supporting local schools.
“As a Brightspeed Fiber Internet customer, I know first-hand the impact that high-speed connectivity can have on local businesses like mine,” said Darian Ortiz, owner of The Rowdy Chick Boutique in downtown Humble. “Whether it’s processing transactions, communicating with customers, or managing online orders, a strong and reliable internet connection is a crucial asset to local entrepreneurs who are already investing so much into their businesses and community. Brightspeed’s investment is exactly what Humble needs to thrive for years to come.”
