Why Every Industry Benefits from Widespread Fiber Deployment
Why does fiber matter? That was the central question posed to panelists Amber Humphrey (Vanderbilt University Medical Center), Dr. Sreekala Bajwa (Montana State University), Andrew Donaldson (University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute), and Chris Shilling (Chickasaw Nation) at Fiber Connect 2025.
Panelists explored the hypothetical scenario: “Assume everyone has fiber—how does your industry benefit?” From there, they outlined the transformative potential of widespread fiber deployment. Telehealth, agricultural innovation, and public safety emerged as the most promising use cases, though each sector also faces barriers to achieving full implementation.
Despite the challenges, all panelists agreed that fiber has the power to significantly enhance quality of life. Whether improving access to healthcare, streamlining logistics, or increasing community safety, fiber is foundational to building stronger, more connected communities.
