LFT Fiber Celebrates Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at LSU Eunice: A New Era of Connectivity for the Eunice Community
EUNICE, LA – LFT Fiber proudly announces the successful completion of its fiber network in Eunice, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at LSU Eunice. The event brought together community members, dignitaries, and education leaders to celebrate the significant impact high-speed fiber internet will have on the region.
Emceed by LSU Eunice Chancellor Dr. Nancee Sorenson, speakers included Louisiana Speaker of the House of Representatives Phillip DeVillier, Lafayette Mayor-Parish President Monique B. Boulet, Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot, and LFT Fiber Director Michael D. Soileau, with St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard in attendance.
“LFT Fiber is a game-changer,” said DeVillier. “This initiative will revolutionize our education sector by providing students and educators with the high-speed connectivity they need to thrive in the digital age. It will empower our public services, enhance opportunities for private businesses, and significantly improve the quality of life for all our residents. As we embrace this new era of connectivity, we are investing in the future of our community and our state.”
In expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Mayor Scott Fontenot stated, “As the first residential customer of LFT Fiber in Eunice, I’m thrilled to have this service in our community. It’s not just about faster internet; it’s about opening doors for education, local businesses, and vital services that will enhance the lives of our residents.”
Director Michael D. Soileau addressed the audience, outlining LFT Fiber’s mission and the significance of this milestone for the community.
“This is more than just infrastructure; it’s a long-term investment in our communities that drives economic development, improves health and wellness outcomes, and enhances student educational performance. It’s about building better and stronger communities,” Soileau emphasized, noting the essential role of locally driven, publicly owned fiber in promoting community growth.
In the spirit of community focus, Dr. Sorenson highlighted the broader implications for the city of Eunice.
“LFT Fiber is an amazing asset, not just for LSUE, but the entire community,” explained Dr. Sorenson. “It helps our entire region, all of our citizens, and our students, who need the fast and easy access to broadband. They conduct all of their business on digital platforms, so it’s critically important.”
Funding for expansion into Eunice came from an NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) grant, providing 3146 addresses in Eunice with access to LFT Fiber.
