Fybe Awarded $2.4 Million in State Funding to Expand Broadband Access Across Eight North Carolina Counties

[Edenton, N.C.] – Fybe (“the company”), a broadband internet service provider, has been awarded $2,406,500 through North Carolina’s Stop-Gap Solutions program to expand high-speed internet access to 826 locations across Bertie, Chowan, Gates, Granville, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, and Northampton counties by the end of 2026.

This funding is part of a broader statewide initiative announced by Governor Josh Stein, allocating nearly $26 million to connect more than 5,000 homes, businesses, and community anchor institutions in rural and underserved areas across North Carolina. The Stop-Gap Solutions program is designed to accelerate broadband deployment by targeting hard-to-reach locations and closing critical gaps in connectivity.

“This investment allows us to continue expanding reliable, high-speed internet to rural communities that need it most,” said Bo Coughlin, President. “Access to broadband is essential for education, healthcare, business growth, and everyday life, and we’re proud to be part of the effort to ensure more North Carolinians can stay connected.”

Administered by the N.C. Department of Information Technology’s Division of Broadband and Digital Opportunity, the Stop-Gap Solutions program uses federal American Rescue Plan Act funding to support targeted broadband line extensions. These projects focus on connecting unserved and underserved households, businesses, and community institutions that may otherwise be left behind in larger deployment efforts.

Fybe’s expansion will bring fiber internet infrastructure to rural communities, enabling faster, more reliable connectivity that supports telehealth access, remote learning, workforce development, and economic opportunity.
