2024 Dr. James Kao Award Nominations Now Open

The Dr. Charles Kao Award for Community Broadband honors Dr. Kao and celebrates the lasting impact he continues to make on the fiber industry. Dr. Charles Kao, regarded by many as the “Father of Fiber Optics,” revolutionized the transmission of data and laid the foundation for fiber connectivity around the world. The award recognizes individuals, organizations, or companies that honor Dr. Kao’s innovation and connect communities with fiber optic technology.

2024 Fiber Deployment Cost Study Survey

You are invited to participate in our survey on fiber deployment costs.

This survey aims to address the current lack of reliable build cost benchmarks across the industry, and your participation is crucial to helping us bridge this gap.

The survey asks you to provide metrics from a recent deployment project and should take 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Fiber Broadband Association 2024 Third Quarter Update

In the first half of 2024, FBA reported that the supply side of the fiber industry continued to struggle as network operators worked down COVID-related excess inventory, in addition to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) slower-than-anticipated approval of initial proposals for the states’ $42.45B of Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program’s fiber infrastructure prioritized grant program. The exciting news is that FTTH-related inventory has largely normalized, and NTIA has now approved 49 out of 56 initial proposals for BEAD funding.
