Fiber Broadband Association’s Live Fiber for Breakfast to be Out of This World
Episode airing live from Fiber Connect 2026 to feature Starfront Observatories and how fiber is expanding our view into space
WASHINGTON, D.C.—(May 12, 2026)—The Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) today announced it will host its weekly Fiber for Breakfast show live from Fiber Connect 2026 on Tuesday, May 19, during general sessions. Starfront Observatories Co-Founder Josh Kim will join FBA President & CEO Gary Bolton to explore how fiber broadband enables hundreds of thousands of astronomy enthusiasts to view the cosmos.
Fiber Connect 2026 is focused on what comes next after fiber networks are constructed, examining the applications and innovations that fiber enables and accelerates. The astronomy-themed Fiber for Breakfast complements conference programming dedicated to the future of AI and quantum, telehealth, data centers, precision agriculture, and more.
Starfront Observatories hosts more than 400 telescopes at its Texas facility—more than any other remote telescope observatory in the world. It serves as a cosmic data center, where hobbyist and businesses pay to dock their telescopes and log in remotely to capture images of stars, planets, and galaxies.
Just like traditional server data centers, reliable power, environmental conditions, and high-performance connectivity are crucial to the success of the Starfront facility. A single telescope can generate hundreds of gigabytes of imagery per night, creating massive amounts of data to translate and process. In a recent Fiber Forward article, Kim noted that it would be difficult for satellite broadband to support Starfront’s operations. “Fiber was one of the very, very top priorities that we were considering when we were selecting our site…availability of large-scale fiber utilities, those were all important aspects of why we ultimately ended up choosing our Texas location.”
“It is fascinating to see how fiber broadband continues to support new forms of innovation, and this session with Josh and Gary is a great example of what our industry can look forward to. Starfront is literally bringing the power of fiber beyond our world,” said Jessica Koch, FBA Conference Committee Chair and Controller at CBS Oregon. “When communities, businesses, and people are connected to reliable, high-speed internet, they can shoot for the moon, or even other galaxies.”
